Postcards from New York Fashion Week (Day 4)

Fashion Week in New York City is almost over, and although some of us hate the thought of it, many alike me who work in fashion are glad for the break.  I’m glad for your continual support towards me, and of course Adrian with my new Postcards column and I do hope you enjoy all that is to come. Yesterday was a great day, filled with fabulous shows like DKNY, and Tommy Hilfiger’s Women’s collection. Thankfully Adrian got the chance to be out and about again, shooting exclusively for La Mode Dimitri and all our dear readers. Spotted once more was Anna Dello Russo, Bryan Boy and Nina Garcia, along with some more great faces in the industry, like Brad Goreski, models Melodie Monrose, Marihenny Rivera, Jonathan Marquez and Fernando Cabral.  See Photo Collection

Tommy Hilfiger | New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012

The female counterparts trotted down the runway yesterday, and with looks proving to be just as good as the men’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, they certainly got my stamp of approval. Channeling his overall Spring theme and continually remaining in his long-time vein of all-american prep, he presented the exact opposite, to the men’s collection that showcased on Friday. That’s right, a spew of color, camo, horizontal stripes, chunky sweaters and leather all paced the floor at the show. What seemed to be new however, was a great deal of tartan outfits that sauntered down the runway upon the show’s opening, along with sophisticated jumpsuits with bold lapels, and colorful Kaftans fit for the beach. I was amused by the stunning swimwear which came color blocked and one-shouldered, then a striking mix of fuchsia camouflage. Accessories were more than present, as models wore lovely pairs of sunglasses and clutched large handbags with similar prints,  and smaller two-tone clutch bags. Once again, Mr. Hilfiger comes strong, proving to me why he is one of my favorite designers.  Check out my favorites below, as well as the entire collection. If you missed the MEN’S show, check it out here.

Tommy Hilfiger | New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012

Tommy Hilifger has always been at the top of my favorite fashion brands list. Why? Simply because the brand represents my classic/preppy style well, and also because it’s easily accessible in Barbados. From the moment the first model stepped on the runway today at Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring/Summer 2012 show, I began to swoon over the camouflage print, which was gorgeously plastered atop coats, biker jackets, shirts, hooded sweaters, cardigans, shorts, pants and shoes.  Continuing his longtime trend of all American prep, he released a spew of horizontal stripes, khakis and classic penny loafers. With stripes becoming a huge trend recently, it showed it’s face on Tommy Hilfiger blazers, shirts, and pants, along with what seemed to varsity hybrids that created a sporty college look, and brought that touch of youthfulness every collection needs. As usual, I was impressed, and also reminded why I love the label to the great extent which I do. All I have to say, is thanks to Mr. Hilfiger for yet another exceptional spring/summer collection which has his everlasting touch of innovation and creativity. Check out my favorite looks from the show, along with the entire collection below.

New York Fashion Week | The Introduction

The biggest event in the world of fashion has officially begun, and without a doubt, everyone is psyched and ready to have fun at the runway shows, and at Fashion’s Night Out!  Excuse my lack of posts for the last few days as well as in the near future (blame it on school), but I’m also working quite hard on other projects, and of course my new and revamped blog which should land in a week or two.  This morning I got to see the BCBG Max Azria live streamed show, and as always stunning pieces with great prints and architectural inspiration walked the runway. I can’t wait to post the full articles, but until then, I leave you with an exclusive look into Jason Wu’s fabulous collection which will be hitting the runway quite soon and is the ideal definition of  “Clean and Couture.”

Pulling on one of my favorite models Lindsey Wixson, who is a usual face for the label, Wu dons his ever-chic piece which screams feminine elegance and class at it’s best.  Soft in both color and texture, the shorts and top, which is tamed at the waist with a small leather belt and feature a bunch of sequins, both represent the next summer season well.

I am definitely looking forward to Christian Siriano, Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenburg, and tons more, so stay tuned!

Those Blue Chinos…

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a show here in Barbados for the Miss World Barbados Pre-Judging of the Swimwear.  Ignoring the fact that I got there about 30 minutes late, it was overall a great show, and I must say congratulations to the top three girls so far, who proved that they deserved their titles.  Pertaining to my outfit, I wore my new favorite chinos which I got from Topman, along with a quite colorful ensemble.  I’ve notice that Blue Chinos, have become incredibly popular and are now an essential must-have in a guy’s closet. I remember stumbling upon a poll a couple of weeks ago which questioned the most coveted colored in chinos, and although I selected Red which I could say is my favorite color, Blue came out on top.  With prices and quality varying, here are my favorites from H&M, Asos, Topman and Mr. Porter.

Jourdan Dunn for Vogue’s September Issue

It’s great when a day after announcing your list of favorite female and male models, one of them become the subject of a big spread in Vogue’s ‘always amazing” September issue.  UK’s best, Jourdan Dunn appears clad in the best of the Fall/Winter season, from the likes of 3.1 Philip Lim, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Dior, Rick Owens and tons more all shot by David Sims and styled by Marie-Amélie Sauvé.  All the looks with utilitarian and military influence, are topped with Jourdan’s fierce and structured face which is furthermore adorned by a short straight hair-do with brown highlights. Once again, Jourdan pulls off her ‘je ne sais quoi’ look, for the amazing spread. Can’t wait to pick up my issue. 🙂
