Alexander McQueen | Milan Menswear Spring/Summer 2012

The name known above every other in the fashion industry Alexander McQueen presented a great collection filled with colors on white. Checkered patterns, stripes, velvet and the overall classic appeal really reflects the McQueen-esque that is captured in his designs. Yes, although it’s McQueen I wasn’t amused that much by the collection, however, it was lovely and chic. Check out my favorites from the show, along with all the photos from the runway.

L’Inspiration de Dimitri | Daphne Guinness

Daphne by Steven Klien for Vogue Italia

To be quite honest and straight up, no one has the confidence or taste to match that of Daphne Guinness; and she herself has created some sort of new category in fashion which can only be defined by the haute couture she wears on a daily basis. The heiress of the Guinness family who is generally an artist of Irish, English and French descent,  is prominent in the fashion world as a journalist and collector of haute couture.  A few days ago, while perusing Bryan’s blog I was completely blown away by a short film by Director Brennan Stasiewicz  which captures Daphne, who is described as Fashion’s Enigma, at her home and on display. Check it out on NOWNESS.COM. I can’t tell in words the fascination which spanned throughout the 10 minute video; however, I can without a doubt say, that Daphne is definitely one whose style, class and haute sophistication will live with us forever.  I can’t speak for many others, but for myself, a few of my friends and my fellow bloggers, Daphne has been a true inspiration, in her confidence, versatility and creativity. Born November 9th 1967, the 43-year-old was listed to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1994, modeled in Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief runway show for the White Ribbon Alliance to raise funds for mothers in Haiti in 2010 and also in 2010, NARS Cosmetics launched a new collection which was dedicated to her. Anyway, without further delay, I present you my great compilation of photos which capture the essence of this true Style Icon, who defines everything fashion is.

L’inspiration de Dimitri | Savage Beauty

As I seek to integrate much more of my personal style and ideas within the editorial category which my blog currently falls into, I decided to write an in-depth article as to why I love fashion, what inspires me within the style industry, and also to bring forward to you – apart from my amazing promotional photos – my personal style portfolio. I have many projects at this point that I am working hard on and right now there are many opportunities and ideas which are arising. With this said, I’m sorry that I haven’t been posting much recently; however, I really want to thank my constant blog viewers who have been faithful through it all. Although this may seem to the ‘dead season’ in the cyber world of fashion, I still enjoy doing what I do and I am glad for your continuous support and love.

Everyday, apart from waking up and thanking God for every breath that I breathe, I find my self strolling the pages of the most famous fashion blogs and news pages – along with mine 🙂 – to get the latest scoop on all that revolves around the fashion industry. One make ask me how much fun can this be, but when you have the knowledge of fashion which I have acquired, along with a great love for clothes and designers… that searching and perusing is normally the result. (1. Alexander McQueen) Lately in news there has been much on the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, which has been on display at the MET for the last couple of days. Later on in July, I’ll be taking it all in and getting the real inspired feeling when gazing upon his amazing pieces. But no one can dispel the fact that Alexander McQueen has been one of the biggest inspirations and in fact one of my biggest inspirations, when it comes to creativity and individuality in the fashion industry.  Probably the first ‘Fashionista Profile‘ that ever appeared on my blog, but with his incredible talent, he seized the opportunity to capture most of the hearts within fashion.

The above photos, which are from the Savage Beauty display at the MET, capture within them the eternal beauty within all McQueen’s intricate pieces.

The amazing Armadillo shoes, which to this day remain on the stunner list of shoes, peaking at 11 inches and have always been a favorite of mine. Just a few days ago, I made a comment jokingly saying that my wife – whoever she may be – must walk down the aisle at our wedding, towering in a pair of them.  However, since Abbey Lee Kershaw along with Natasha Poly refused to walk the runway in them, I’m sure my wife-to-be would be doing the same.

 2. My  Men of Style

As a black man, there are tons of challenges along with racism that I could face. At this mild age and young point in the growth of my blog, I am sure that I have not seen half of it all. Nevertheless, from day one I’ve set my eyes on a goal and I assure you that with my strong focus and persistence, that everything I put my hand to will come to success. Today I am sure that everyone has an icon as it pertains to character or even in my case dress. Kanye West and Pharrell Williams both capture in my eyes, what I want to be as an assertive, fashionable, versatile and a black man full of character.  They both possess a great level of fearlessness and as funny as it may sound, fierceness.  Pharrell being 5 years older than Kanye, are both always associated with an abundant degree of youthfulness, as well as a high knowledge of style and the ability to be very versatile and having the ‘edge’ in the african american industry of music and fashion alike. Known to attend some of the biggest fashion events each year, the two always show up to the runway looking as stunning as stunning can be, and even breaking the rules a little, as we more recently saw when Kanye rocked a Celine shirt from the female collection at Coachella.

The two have incredibly outstanding in both their music ventures and in business, and what more can one like me expect when looking up to substantial figures like them in today’s society.

Today is the beginning of a new page in the life of La Mode Dimitri, starting with Alexander McQueen, Kanye West & Pharrell Williams. Make sure you return next week, for more insight on the inspirations of Dimitri.

La Mode Best Dressed | MET Gala 2011

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City came alive once again with the annual MET Gala bringing some of the biggest names in fashion and entertainment down it’s red carpet in stunning style. In honor of the amazing fashion genius Alexander McQueen, who solemnly passed away after committing suicide in February of 2010, all the celebs remembered his stunning work and his incredibly described Savage Beauty. No matter what one wore tonight, all the looks were without a doubt portraying some feel of drama and destructive beauty. As always, only the best appear on La Mode Dimitri, and with my acute eye for fashion I’ve selected some of the best dressed which from range fromAlicia Keys and Kanye West to Christina Ricci and Gisele Bundchen.

Janelle Monae in her usual tailored get-up came in on my top charts again, with her chic high necked detail and satin pants.

Rihanna who walked in wearing Stella McCartney looked simple yet stunning.

Wearing one of the most exciting looks of the night was Serena Williams with her bold Oscar de la Renta gown.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked incredibly stunning in her Embellished Alexander McQueen dress.

Salma Hayek looked gorgeous in her McQueen dress.

Arriving with Ricardo Tisci himself ,was none other than Liv Tayler in this couture Givenchy.

Leelee Sobieski wore an incredibly chic Vionnet gown.

I could have stood speechless when I saw Jennifer Hudson’s look because it was simply amazing!  Wearing Vera Wang for the night, she really shined her new size with the hot tubed- top dress.

Gisele Bundchen’s astounding beauty was truly captured with this red hot Alexander McQueen gown, which also showed her wowing height.

Fergie’s look was indeed astonishing with this Marchesa gown that she wore.

Diane Kruger looked great with this thigh high splited Jason Wu dress.

Demi Moore rocked the red carpet with this feathered frock from Prabal Gurung.

Ciara came in high on my list of the best dressed, as she wore an incredible Prabal Gurung gown, which was evidently channeling the grungy beauty of Alexander McQueen.

Dakota Fanning appeared in a beautifully flower-adorned gown by Valentino.

Beyonce looked great in this Emilio Pucci dress, which showed her awesome curves and its dramatic embellishments.

Showing that she has definitely ‘uped’ her style, Taylor Swift goes for an edgier option from J. Mendel’s couture collection.

Ashley Greene looked quite nice in this Donna Karan gown with sequin details.

Alicia Keys who substantially stood out from her husband Swizz Beatz, who by the way looked quite nice, wore a hot Givenchy look which showed it’s destructive beauty with a touch of leather.

Entering the room with mastermind Zac Posen, was Christina Ricci who hands down, wore the best gown of the night.

Chanel’s new face Blake Lively, came in with the one and only Karl Lagerfeld, wearing of course a gown from Chanel.

Coming in at my spot number 2, was the outstanding Jennifer Lopez, who wore Gucci. Her husband looked incredible among the men as well.

I can assure you that I honestly fainted when I saw this look (LOL) However, Kanye West was undoubtedly the best dressed male celebrity at the MET gala, wearing an extremely tailored Tory Burch tuxedo. The safety pin detail was one of my favorites.

Max Irons looked great as well.

Kate Middleton & McQueen | The Royal Dress

Kate Middleton & McQueen | The Royal Dress

Although I’m sure we all know that the original ‘Bride of McQueen’ would have been much bigger, in fact Huge!  I think Sarah Burton’s reinvention was great, with this simple and elegant, yet stunning dress topped off with Lace.

I was honestly quite eager to get a glimpse of the ‘royal’ dress this morning on my television. However, it was quite hard, since the camera didn’t go that close… or since I got up a bit late. Nevertheless, the gorgeous and stunning bride came down the runway; sorry I mean aisle. In none other than that of McQueen!  I remember hearing some rumors early on that it would have been McQueen; however, I began having some doubts as it related to this, and I was  just waiting for the news to hit as to know who was the fabulous designer.

Sarah Burton is sure having a great year, one can say, after releasing the incredible collection for Alexander McQueen F/W 2011, but I think it was quite fitting. First off to pay homage to the deceased designer, and also since he was British.

David Agbodji | 7th Man Spring Issue

Undoubtedly, David Agbodji is the most incredible black model in the world, and his stunning features and dark complexion leave him ranked on the model charts as number 7 in the ‘world’ of male models.  Taking on the role of both model and photographer, he pairs with stylist Julie Ragolia, to shoot himself for the Spring Issue of 7th Man Magazine. Outfitted in some of summer’s key pieces from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Jil Sander, Thom Browne, Lanvin among others, he appears with the fearlessness and masculine poise that seems to be repeatedly reflected in his spreads.  Check out the beach side appearance, with the black man of all black men.

Simply Stunning!
