New York, being the fashion capital of the world, is without a doubt filled with models. Although some may possess more talent than others, and race continues to be major controversy, the model world as we know it is simply extremely competitive. Nevertheless, there some, like Donald who assist and carry a positive attitude about what they do. Although unsigned, Donald Carmichael was one of the first models I ever came in to contact with, before I began the job of an editorial writer. His interesting photographs caught my eye, and his stunning bone structure left me thinking. Born March the 8th, he grew up in Harlem, New York. Growing up with his eyes and passion focused on other aspects of life, the idea of modelling never once left an impression in his mind. Well until one day, when a fashion stylist discovered him and was completely intrigued by his ‘look.’ She decided to take him in on a project, and with this, he ended up ‘landing’ a three-page photo spread. Obviously from that time onward, he never looked back. Donald is somewhat of a well-known person; especially, among ethnic models in New York. Having a lot of projects tagged to his name like the New Era campaign, Moncler’s Gamme Bleu F/W 2011, Akademiks lookbook, Indashio S/S 2011 as well as F/W 2011 and probably tons that I’ve never seen, or heard about. Donald, who currently remains unsigned from an agency, shared with me the fact that he has begun some work with Boss Models, and definitely has great hopes of being signed soon. Undoubted however, he is still a very successful free-lance model and also has a goal in the future, to become a successful actor. World Look out, because here he comes!
